A Variety Show of Talents
February 9, 2018
Walking through the walls of SWMHS, you’d never guess the amount of talent contained in our seemingly normal high school. However, when the Variety Show, hosted by the Class of 2019, rolls around, every student has a shot to show off their skills to a wider audience. From singing to painting and rapping to dancing, a plethora of talents were shown off here. Some people chose to fly solo in their acts, while others teamed up with friends to give it their all.
The show headlined with “Take Me Home Country Roads” performed by several special guests. Next, Jessica DeLuca, Andrew LaMonica, and Neethu Sureshkumar rocked the house with their rendition of “Seven Nation Army”. Color Guard members Izabella Pereira, Sara Buono, and Celine Mirra performed one of their routines to “Handclap”. Aya Alasafi stunned the audience by painting upside down. She created a near perfect image of Marilyn Monroe.
Lauren Gates performed as well, singing to “Somebody Else”. She absolutely loved performing in the Variety Show in front of her friends and family, saying “It was a really good feeling knowing that I could do something I loved, in front of the people I love. There was so much support in the room and everyone just wanted to make each other feel empowered”.
Other major highlights included Monika Richczajd with a lyrical dance to “River”, Chris Brocke’s original rap about his mother, and Alex Fitzgerald, better known as Green Tea, playing the piano with a self-written song.
The Variety Show is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and for good reason. After all, multiple talented masters of their disciplines combine forces to provide a breathtaking show!
