Phil Murphy to donate billions toward NJ schools
March 23, 2018
Governor Phil Murphy is going to boost funding for 546 school districts, a 5% increase in aid to some. The total funding of the state’s districts will be roughly $9.6 billion.
Some schools, like those in Newark, might get one of the largest increases in funding, with $37.5 million more than usual. Another example of an increase in funding is Haworth Public Schools, with an increase of about $37,000.
Murphy said that large sums of money will be going to the schools that have dropped in means of enrollment.
The increase in funding to certain school districts will be based off of their “school funding formula.” Like the example before, some schools can receive a large increase in funding, or one that’s minuscule. Many districts’ funding is set to a certain amount, so they never have an increase in what they are given. This gap in payment is what Governor Murphy had said he plans on closing.
