At the 80th Golden Globe Awards held on January 10, 2023, the Indian action film RRR made history by winning the award in the Best Original Song category for the song “Naatu Naatu.” RRR is a Telugu-language movie that centers around two revolutionaries and their fight against the British Raj during the 1920s. It is directed by S. S. Rajamouli and stars prominent actors N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan. It is also the most expensive Indian film ever made and the third-highest-grossing one in the country.

The composer of the song, M. M. Keeravani, accepted the Golden Globe and stated in his speech that he was “overwhelmed by this great moment.” “Naatu Naatu” was shot at the Mariinksyi Palace in Kyiv, Ukraine and is the first Indian as well as the first Asian song to win the award. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally congratulated the team behind “Naatu Naatu” and called the win a “very special accomplishment.”

Recently, the song also received an Oscar nomination for the 95th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 12. Whether RRR can successfully bag an Oscar or not is a question only time can answer.
