D.E.C.A (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is a club in which high school-aged students are prepared to become leaders in different careers in business. However, a future in business is not the only reason why one should join DECA. The club provides different types of opportunities to fit interests of each individual.
Regardless, if someone want to pursue business in the future, DECA teaches you many things that will be useful in any career choice. For example, one of the competitive events you can choose to compete in is a roleplay. There are many different types of roleplays, and based on your strengths you can chose which roleplay to compete in. Competing in a roleplay event teaches you about business, and also provides you with social and networking skills.
On September 21, the SWMHS chapter held their first DECA meeting of the year. In this meeting, the board members discussed different aspects of DECA, along with all the fun trips and incentives (one of them being missing a week at school and going to California). The meeting ended with a practice roleplay, in which people competed in groups to market a product to board members acting as judges. A final group was picked as the overall winner of the practice roleplay.
The next meeting will be held on October 12. This meeting will inform prospective DECA members on different types of roleplays and manuals. The meeting will also give an opportunity for people to practice doing roleplays, and will go over the specifics on what to study and the different sectors of business that one can choose to compete in.
Throughout the year, the SWMHS chapter of DECA also holds multiple different parties. One of them is the Halloween Party in October. This party will include fun games, food, and much more! Be sure to attend for a “boo-gie time”.
DECA provides its members with multiple different opportunities, and also allows for people to explore their interests. It is a great club to join, as you learn a lot about business and general skills that one needs for any career path. If you are interested in DECA, make sure to attend the next meeting and get ready to “Experience the Difference” with DECA.
