Sayreville students’ days consist of everything from classes, clubs, and fun with friends. Those days eventually turn into great years filled with fun memories and lifelong friendships.
Kayla Cancel, freshmen at SWMHS, said her day to day life looked like, “Take the bus at 6:40 and get dropped off at school at around 7:15, go to classes and learn and do all my work, then I go to lunch and have fun with friends, then back to classes until 2:12 and then I go home.”
Some of the classes Cancel takes are easy such as math because she enjoys it, while classes like science can be more difficult because it’s a lot of work. High school is not all about classes and Cancel is also involved in clubs.
Cancel is specifically involved in the theatre society and she said, “I would recommend the theatre society because there is a whole bunch of stuff you can do from acting to going behind the scenes and I’ve made a lot of friends there and it’s just really fun.”
The clubs in SWMHS are one of the reasons why Cancel came back from the East Brunswick Magnet School. However, she would like to see a competitive dance team added to the high school but other than that she can’t think of anything else that can be improved off the top of her head.
For incoming freshmen Cancel had some advice, “Get good grades because it really matters all throughout high school, don’t get in trouble and join lots of clubs.”
She would recommend the same advice for those students in or starting middle school. Despite all her good advice for middle school and high school, her favorite Sayreville schools would be Eisenhower elementary or the SUES because she had the best memories and friends.
Out of all her years at Sayreville, Cancel’s favorite end of the year activity remains the same, “My favorite end of the year activity would be field day, I really like field day because I could just spend the day with my friends.”
Cancel feels a sense of pride and community in her town especially when it’s time for reward certificates, acknowledgements of accomplishments and winning sports teams.
Kayla Cancel has some rewards and accomplishments herself, “My greatest accomplishment this school year was getting all As second quarter and going to the Renaissance Breakfast. And being able to go to the Renaissance Barbecue and getting good grades all year,” she said.
