Sayreville Human Relations Commission: How they are Promoting Inclusion & Positivity Across Sayreville
The Sayreville Human Relations Commission (SHRC) works to ensure every person in Sayreville feels heard, valued, and included. The group hosts monthly meetings at the borough hall and serves as an active, inclusive body for community engagement.
The SHRC organizes events like Black History Month celebrations, Sayreville Day, Fun Day, and bias awareness workshops to bring people together and build a stronger, more connected community.
One of the SHRC’s main goals is to handle complaints of discrimination with fairness and objectivity, making Sayreville a place where everyone is treated equally.
As a high school representative for the SHRC, I’ve had an incredible journey. It has taught me the importance of empathy, teamwork, and how even small efforts can spark meaningful change.
I am honored to have been part of the SHRC for the past four years, serving as both a former secretary and a dedicated high school representative.
Looking ahead, the SHRC plans to organize more community-led events, including a Black History Month competition with art contests for elementary school students, essay contests for middle schoolers, and speech contests for high schoolers.
If you’re interested in joining or learning more, you can email me at [email protected] or visit us at our next meeting. We meet monthly on the first Thursday at 7:30 PM at 167 Main Street, Municipal Building, Room 310.
