As climate change becomes a more pressing issue, many cities around the world face challenges with their infrastructure due to rising sea levels and extreme weather. To minimize the impact of climate change, engineers are utilizing innovative solutions in order to create better infrastructure that is more sustainable and sturdy against climate change.
The creation of this infrastructure combines engineering with sustainability, allowing new innovations to occur, but without a taxing cost to our enviornment. One example of these innovative solutions is green roofs and walls. This type of infrastructure aid in managing stormwater. A popular example can be seen in Singapore’s “Gardens by the Bay”.
Another example of innovative solutions is flood resilient architecture which is currently being developed in the Netherlands. This architecture is known as “amphibious houses” which float during floods. The state of New Jersey is also highly vulnerable to floods and rising sea levels. This has led to the development of NJPACT regulations and other legislation in order to combat this rising issue.
