On March 26, the Computer Science Academy and Computer Honors Society had the exciting opportunity to work with Ms. Darci Santella and Dr. Mala Maharana to help middle school students learn more about computer science. With help from students in the Computer Honors Society, the Computer Science Academy, and the Technology Student Association, we led fun, hands-on activities that showed just how exciting computer science can be.
The event gave middle schoolers a chance to try real coding challenges, build problem-solving skills, and work closely with high school mentors. One fun technique we introduced was called duck debugging—a way to fix code problems by talking through them out loud (sometimes to a rubber duck!).
Events like this help create strong connections between middle and high school students. Older students get to share their advice and experiences, while younger students get inspired to explore computer science and think about their futures in tech.
By working together, we’re building a path for more students to join the Computer Science Academy and become future leaders in technology.
We’re not just learning code—we’re creating the future.
