 January 16, 2023: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January, close to Dr. King’s birthday on January 15. It commemorates and celebrates Dr. King’s life and legacy. This celebration is usually marked by marches and parades, as well as speeches by politicians and civil rights activists.

 

January 22, 2023: Lunar New Year

Although  Lunar New Year is commonly referred to as Chinese New Year, many other nations celebrate this holiday, as well. It begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar. This year, it’s on the January 22. People celebrate this holiday with fireworks, traditional cuisine, giving each other red envelopes, and lighting lanterns.
