On October 25 the 2025 Greater Middlesex Champions (GMCs) arrived at Thompson Park in Jamesburg, NJ. Family members of the runners come to the park to watch their beloved sons and daughters run the course.
Teams start warming up and stretching for the big day. Spectators are buying ice cream and setting up chairs to wait for the big race to start. When the race is about to start, athletes go straight to the starting line. Not only that, but people also go to the course to watch the most spectacular Cross Country meet in the county.
Now, Sayreville got the dub and we won in the gold division. So, that has to mean something right? Coached by Coach Logan, our top athletes were, Morgan Koonce, Angeleah Lepre, Sophia Stanley, and Bryce White. These athletes managed to make the top 30 in varsity girls and boys, winning medals for their achievements.
For the girls, Angie came in 4th place with a time of 19:54. Morgan came in 11th place with a time of 20:19, and Sophia coming in 17th place with a time of 19:30. For the boys, Bryce came in 19th place with a time of 17:04.
In an interview with medalist Morgan Koonce, she tells us what inspired her to join the team and how it keeps them healthy and active.
“I joined cross country to stay in shape for swimming and work on my form. It keeps us active because we’re running and that’s a difficult sport compared to, I don’t know, golf,” Koonce said.
Asked if they would’ve gone for a better time if they were able to run the 2025 GMCS again, Morgan Koonce and Sophia Stanley were proud of their accomplishments.
“No, I ran my best time,” Koonce said.
“I got a personal record in it. So, I don’t think I can run that any faster,” Stanley said.
