The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released May 1, 2026, a whole 20 years after the first movie. This movie follows the characters from the first movie: – Andy Sachs, Miranda Priestly, and Emily Charlton – 20 years later as adults with careers.
In the first movie, Andy Sachs worked as an assistant at Runway, a famous fashion magazine, but she left to become a journalist. Now in the sequel she lost her journalist job and was forced to go back to Runway because Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief, created a PR crisis. Andy enters the office and, just like in the first movie, Miranda is rude and dismisses Andy’s ideas.
Later in the movie Andy meets Emily Charlton, the woman she worked as an intern with 20 years ago. Emily works at Dior now and is against Runway because she decides if the advertisements enter the magazine which keeps it alive. The fate of Runway is debated throughout the movie as the magazine goes digital and it loses much of its influence. Andy and Miranda have to get past their differences in order to save the magazine for the protection of artistry.
The movie did well at the box office: within the first three days it made $233.6 million globally. Reviews were mixed but people were happy to see themes on the decline of print media and the rise of AI in journalism. That was something that I personally enjoyed as well — the movie focused on very present problems about AI replacing humans in creative industries.
The movie of course focused greatly on fashion which meant that the budget was in the millions for clothes alone. The budget has not been revealed but with designer items in nearly every scene its clear time and effort was put into the clothes. Fashion fans were definitely not disappointed seeing all the different looks as different characters had different styles.
