Sayreville War Memorial High School has a number of events held annually for student entertainment. One of these events includes the pep rally, a series of activities where students engage in games and showcase their talents. This year, the games were a little different so students opinions must be heard.
The yellow team won three out of four activities. One of the contributors to these victories was Hillary Saeteros-Flores. She says their strategy was to, “get everything done as fast as possible and assign each other a role so that everybody already knew what they were going to do.” This ensured that there “was no confusion and that [they] didn’t waste time.”
Hillary also says her “team was very athletic. Everybody on our team plays a sport, so that came in handy.”
These methods resulted in $10 Dunkin gift cards for each team members. Hillary plans on ordering a meal that comes with tater tots and a drink. She expresses that her overall favorite activity was the relay race but that the funniest moment was when, “we thought that we had all seven boxes, but it was only six. And then we all panicked and the whole tower fell. We were all laughing so hard because the boxes fell on some of our friends.”
Emma Michel wasn’t a player but she still impressed the audience with her dance talent. As a member of the flight crew she kept us entertained while others set up the next event. She said her favorite part of the choreography was when they, “rallied with [their] poms and hyped up the crowd.” Emma enjoyed watching bubble soccer the most but also said, “the Pirates of the Caribbean was so chaotic that it couldn’t have not been funny.”
Polly Martinez Navia, along with Maxwell Mensah, were spectators. They both ranked Snatch a Wig as their favorite event and Bubble Soccer as the funniest. Maxwell creatively recommends, “they should get a shade for the bleachers.”
Overall, the 2026 pep rally was deemed chaotic, funny, and enjoyable. Hope to see you on the field playing next time!
