As quarterlies creep up on SWMHS students, stress levels are rising faster than ever, especially for current seniors who are also working on college applications. But if anyone knows how to stay calm under pressure, it’s Snoopy. After all, he is a World War I Flying Ace.
To help manage the chaos, here is a guide I like to call Snoopy’s Survival Plan.
Hot Cocoa = Self Care
Snoopy never turns down a cozy, warm treat, and neither should you. Students are saying that swapping energy drinks for hot cocoa has helped them stay grounded and mindful during this stressful season. “It makes studying less awful,” said senior Fernanda Villa Henriquez.
Take a “Doghouse Break”
Snoopy’s infamous red doghouse is his escape from reality. He spends his breaks daydreaming on the roof of his doghouse, pretending the world around him does not exist. Fortunately, SWMHS students have adopted their own version. These breaks range from a quick walk to a twenty-minute power nap. Senior Aneri Patel admitted that “five minutes on [her] bed pretending to be Snoopy on his doghouse saved [her]” during the hectic week leading up to November 1 college deadlines.
Keep your Inner Woodstock Close
Snoopy and Woodstock’s friendship is iconic. Everyone needs a Woodstock in their life. This Woodstock can come in many forms: texting a friend, forming a study group, or just bothering your lunchmate to listen to your complaints. According to senior Yvette Kwasikumah, her friends at lunch keep her going after a long school day.
Keep Hope…and Maybe a Planner
Snoopy loves to imagine, and he would definitely love to doodle his way through a planner. No matter how aesthetically or chaotically you choose to use the planner, it aids in managing tasks and sticking to deadlines.
“Keeping a planner, writing down exam dates, and application deadlines” has helped make things feel less overwhelming for senior Tiffany Loo.
So as quarterlies approach, Snoopy’s guide to manage stress stands strong. Drink something warm, take a break, find your people, and hold onto hope.
