Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest student business organization in the country. Members attend leadership conferences, regional summits, and compete and win awards.
However, FBLA is so much more than just the competition and business aspects. This organization shapes the future leaders of tomorrow, and leaders are shaped by more than competition. One of the pillars of FBLA is community service, which grows leadership in many different ways. Giving back to the community plays a pivotal role in creating strong, community-minded leaders. With that being said, Sayreville FBLA participated in many different community service initiatives recently.
Spreading Kindness Through “Advocate 4 Anthony”

Anthony Monderine was an NJ FBLA and SWMHS alum who unfortunately took his own life in 2023. He is described as a kind, intelligent man by friends and family. Shriya, our former chapter president and NJ CRVP, initiated the NJ FBLA program “Advocate 4 Anthony” to honor Anthony’s memory and raise awareness about mental health, as well as spread kindness and promote National Suicide Health Prevention.
Our chapter held an Advocate 4 Anthony meeting on December 9. Members learned about the initiative and participated in it as well. Each member made at least five cards, which included kind messages, holiday greetings, and cute drawings. These cards were then sent to senior citizen homes and elementary schools to spread kindness and positivity during the holiday season.
This initiative is pivotal to our chapter, because FBLA is not only about competition and business. Giving back and serving others are extremely important and shape future leaders.

SWMHS Participates in Statewide Community Service Project
The 2025-2026 FBLA statewide community service project is “Hearts for Hygiene.” It aims to unite New Jersey FBLA members in a large-scale initiative to help give back to our community. These donations support those in need of these kinds of products and those experiencing homelessness.
Members have donated numerous hygiene products such as shampoo and conditioner, body wash and soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, feminine products, deodorant, and hand sanitizer. Cash donations could be given as well, so local officers can purchase more hygiene items. These items will get donated to local hygiene banks and other non-profit organizations providing hygiene products.

FBLA Brings Awareness to Alzheimer’s
FBLA partners with the Alzheimer’s Association as their national service partner. Last year, FBLA raised over $63,000 nationally to support research and care programs. FBLA Middle and High School levels participate in the “The Virtual Walk to San Antonio to End Alzheimer’s,” a fundraising-based game. Chapters can opt to also attend local walks.
Sayreville FBLA is supporting the Alzheimer’s Association by making monetary donations, with a goal of $500, which will go directly towards the association and bring awareness about those currently facing Alzheimer’s.
If interested in donating, contact adviser Mr. Annett at [email protected] or use the following link: https://events.alz.org/s/3641/4039
Sayreville Promotes Holiday Spirit with Donations
SWMHS FBLA participated in their own passion project in which they donated holiday decorations to a local donation center. Holiday decorations consisted of yarn, ribbons, bows, and various ornaments. In total, 119 items were donated and given to GreenDrop in Metuchen at 359 Amboy Avenue. Two of our co-presidents and one community service vice president donated these items during the holiday season and spread festivity while giving back to the community.

What a wonderful organization of young people trying to do good, put others before themselves. It is very refreshing in this “ME” society of today. Congrats to all and keep up this much needed work to make the world a better place.
