This past month, Sayreville War Memorial High School’s chapter of the Technology Student Association (TSA) was invited to attend the NJ TSA annual Leadership Summit at The College of New Jersey. Board members, along with their advisor Ms. Santella, joined fellow NJ TSA chapters to partake in an engineering design challenge and lectures by NJ TSA officers.
Sayreville’s officer team – Amy AboueLnaga and Krish Pipaliya (Co-Presidents), Khushi Patel and Dev Patel (Vice Presidents), Jasmine Kohli (Secretary), Divya Patel (Treasurer), and Prisha Pagare (Reporter) – participated in an engineering design challenge. They were given an hour and a half to build a functioning rollercoaster out of a limited set of materials, with required elements such as loops, curves, and turns in the ride.
Co-President Krish Pipaliya reflected on the tasks, noting that, “It was definitely challenging to complete the roller coaster in time, especially when working with limited materials.” However, despite the constraints, members embraced the competition with creativity and collaboration.
After competing in the design challenge, members were asked to join their corresponding NJ TSA state officers for a lecture and a Q&A session. Co-President Amy AboueLnaga attended the NJ TSA state president’s lecture. For her, the lecture was “really intriguing and taught me a lot about my responsibilities within my leadership role.” She also stated that, “It was nice to talk to chapter presidents from other schools and learn from their experiences.”
Throughout the day, chapters had multiple opportunities to network with other schools, exchange ideas, and build connections. Board members and advisors were also treated to a breakfast and lunch provided by NJ TSA. The day was filled with leadership development and hands-on learning.
